Decisions, Decisions...

Back in the 80's, we were torn between two warring desires: to be an exciting private eye like Laura Holt (Miss Stephanie Zimbalist), and be ravished by Remington Steele (Pierce Brosnan); or to be an average suburban housewife like Mrs. King (Mr. Kate Jackson), and boff Scarecrow (Bruce Boxleitner).

While we may have secretly imagined ourselves to be as glamorous as Laura Holt and worthy of a man as elegant as Remington Steele, the truth is, our taste in sweaters and hairstyles more closely resembled Mrs. King's. If she had only popped her collar, the resemblance would be uncanny.

Retrolicious Crush #107

We admit it: we haven't thought of Mark Harmon in a long, long time. But his name suddenly popped up today, for no apparent reason; then we found this photo, and... well, insert your own "popping up" crude comment.

Rootin' for Ruta

We're ardent admirers of Miss Ruta Lee, who was born on this day in 1936. We've honestly no real clue as to why she's (semi) famous, or what exactly it is that she does - but she's clearly having one swell time doing it. And that, dear hearts, is what life is all about. Kick up your heels and have fun this weekend!

Crash Goes Love

So it is written: all good things must come to an end; and all ex-teen idols must come to white, Beadazzled polyester.

We're alternately charmed, amused, and disturbed by these images.

It's Hump Day, Part One

Don't climb the walls - you're halfway through the week!

Quote, Unquote

We thought we were being so clever with our last Mystery Guest; but you glamour-addicts know a cool blonde when you see one. ("MJBThird" even correctly named the designer of her frock, which gives you some sort of idea of the crowd we're catering to.) MC, who is one of the most fabulous creatures we know, was the first to name "Tippi" Hedren - and, thrillingly, he was aware that Ms. Hedren was initially billed with quotation marks around her first name; publicity materials from the period also refer to her in this manner. Inexplicable and affected - two adjectives we can often apply to our favorite glamour icons!

As a Grand Prize, MC will not be gifted with the stunningly un-chic wardrobe from Marnie (1964); costume designer Rita Riggs had a fabulous name, but a heavy hand. Her most notable other credits are the TV series All in the Family and Sanford and Son, which pretty much says it all.

Trixie Friganza

c. 1907, the musical comedy star of The Belle of Bohemia, Sally in Our Alley, The Sultan of Sulu, and Twiddle-Twaddle

On the vaudeville circuit, c. 1920's.

Sophie Tucker visits her ailing friend, 1952.

Her 83rd birthday, November 29, 1953.

Actress, singer, suffragette - Trixie Friganza may not be a household name today, but as the photos above amply illustrate, hers was a life that went unwasted and was lived fully. It's an example that we can all benefit from...

Separated at Birth?

1960's dancer/songstress Mara Lynn Brown
(THANKS!)

Former ballet dancer/First Son Ron Reagan

The gamine-like quality, the aqualine nose, the gangly limbs - spooky!

Does There Need to Be a Reason?

This esteemed, Oscar-winning actor should nevertheless be naked onscreen much more often.

Miss Peggy Lee

May 26, 1920 - January 21, 2002

Surprise!

These really are, in fact, biological women.

She's the Sheriff

We're sure that a woman who has counted Joe Namath, Steve McQueen, Elvis Presley, James Dean, Burt Reynolds, Warren Beatty, Henry Kissinger, Bo Belinsky, and (so help us) Rock Hudson among her conquests found further use for that holster outside of her civic duties. No handcuffs in sight, though; Rock must have been borrowing them.

Reform School Girl

We guess this means that Cara Williams had previously been bitter, bitchy, and incorrigible.

It's A Long Weekend!!!!

Don't let it catch you by surprise.

(We'll be back with updates after the holiday. Have fun, darlings!)
