Happy Birthday, Annie Mae Bullock
...who was destined to leave Nutbush, Tennessee and perform in Bob Mackie hotpants with Ann-Margret. Naturally.

Jean Terrell, You've Been Gone Too Long

Despite being saddled with the thankless task of filling Diana Ross's high heeled shoes; and in spite of such indignities as sporting cast-off gowns and having to share lead vocals with Mary Wilson, the gloriously talented Jean Terrell (November 26, 1944) had a pretty decent Supreme run: seven Top 40 hits, including the R&B #1 "Stoned Love"; international tours; prime time television exposure; and, in the lean years to come, the everlasting opportunity to cash in on the Supremes' name.

Happy Birthday, Jean Terrell! We hope that no Bad Weather spoiled the Floy Joy of your special day. If you get Stoned, love, you can imagine you've crawled Up the Ladder to the Roof with Nathan Jones to create Automatically Sunshine.

ROBERT GOULET
November 26, 1933 - October 30, 2007
Although he spent the latter part of his career good-naturedly poking fun at his own image (outsized voice, outsized moustache, outsized hair, outsized charm), Robert Goulet was, in his prime, not only a devastating singer, but also a pretty devastating hunk. Camelot propelled him to stardom in 1960; he was a major Broadway, nightclub, television, and movie attraction for the first half of the decade. The Love Generation rendered Goulet and his starchy professionalism anachronistic, but after a fallow period in the 1970's, he bounced back, gamely parodying himself in everything from Beetlejuice to The Simpsons to a Weird Al Yankovic video.
We saw Mr. Goulet in the Broadway revival of La Cage Aux Folles shortly before his unexpected death from cancer; and a few nights after seeing his performance, we saw him dining at the also-departed L'Impero restaurant in Tudor City. He was, on stage and off, completely charming and radiated genuine star charisma -- hair dye and all. We were truly saddened by his passing; his booming baritone is, no doubt, a welcome addition to the choir. Happy Birthday, Robert Goulet!

Stolen Booty

We've shamelessly swiped this breathtaking image from Cafe Muscato, because we get all tingly for A) Turbans; B) Pearls; C) Fortuny Delphos gowns; and D) Upen Patel. Having all four combined in one photograph almost qualifies as porn in our world.

Night of the Hunter
The late, great Jeffrey Hunter (November 25, 1926 - May 27, 1969) nails every single criteria for Stirred, Straight Up, with a Twist deity status.
He could smolder...

He looked just divine in trunks...

He made a hot cowboy...

And, of course, he was the first Sexy Jesus.

Happy Birthday, Jeffrey Hunter! We're sure you and the King of Kings have a lot to chat about.

Wham Bam, Thank You Peenee...
...for tagging me. You can check out his gratitude check-list here; and Miss Janey's original here. And, as Peenee was kind enough to mention, you can also view a pantless Mr. Janey and his drums. (Miss Janey, I hope your bandwidth server doesn't implode from all the hits your husband's bits and kit will undoubtedly git.) Peenee's handsome hubby is featured on his list, too; we do not have a handsome or pantless husband to be grateful for; but we shan't dwell on the negative.
What are we grateful for here at Stirred, Straight Up, with a Twist? Cliched though it may be, we are unwaveringly grateful for Friends and Family.

We are grateful for, and endlessly amazed by, the fact that we have made nearly 20 trips to Italy, France, and England in our (relatively) short lifetime. The sights, sounds, smells, and tastes will never die in our memory, even if this Big Bad Recession temporarily halts our future travels.

We are exceedingly grateful for Beauty, in all its many forms.

And, of course, we are grateful that you take some time out of your busy day to read this little bit of irreverence on the 'net. Your wit and humor have been inspiring and keep us on our toes; and your support in more serious matters has touched us. We do it all for you, darlings!
