Our birthday girl, the breathy, bodacious, bad-ass Anne Baxter, is seen below giving a wonderfully, shall we say, animated interview from the 1970's. She's marvelously theatrical in an endearingly over-the-top way that is total artifice and yet so completely part of her being -- and, therefore, natural. To listen to her "burgundy and chocolate" voice, as one writer put it, for nearly thirty minutes is some people's idea of heaven -- certainly, it's ours.
Ever seen Anne Baxter's wonderfully campy performance playing a grand dame actress in that 1973 episode of Columbo? Apparently she was playing herself!
The Sarah Siddons Society is indeed impressed.

ReplyDeleteOnce she hit the 1970's, I always think of Anne Baxter as somehow morphing into America's Coral Browne!
