One of the most worthy Best Supporting Actress wins ever. All she had to do was hike up one of those mink stoles she had for eyebrows and she ran away with the movie.
A brilliantly camp performance by Miss Malone - but the real-life story of Libby Holman, on whom her character was based, is more outrageous than even Douglas Sirk could have masterminded... Jx
I respectfully disagree. Ms. Malone is a wonderful actress and did some fine work...however, this performance, as fun as it is, should not have received the A. Award. The "heartbreak" of Eileen Heckart's performance in "The Bad Seed" was far more memorable.

ReplyDeleteGiven that Texas Southern Baptists consider dancing a sin, they would have had no problem believing that her heathen mambo could kill Daddy.
