Swingin' Sixties starlet; variety show vixen; Bob Hope USO Troupe bombshell; Serta mattress siren -- it can only be Miss Joey Heatherton (September 14, 1943).
In between appearances in such Stirred, Straight Up with a Twist faves as Where Love Has Gone (1964) and Bluebeard (1972), Joey could often be seen doing The Frug on The Dean Martin Show or Hullaballoo; she also recorded a few singles in the 1960's ("When You Call Me Baby" will make an appearance on a later playlist) and in 1972, scored a minor hit with her breathy rendition of "Gone," originally by country crooner Ferlin Husky.
A true icon of the 1960's and 1970's, Miss Heatherton has kept a low profile lately. Wherever she may be, we hope that she's happy and healthy, and we want to say, Happy Birthday, Joey Heatherton!
She was supposed to do an autograph show here in LA last year, so naturally we went ... but she was a no-show. Only her empty table and nameplate! Her serta ads are on youtube - highly recommended.
ReplyDeleteMaybe she fell asleep on her Serta perfect sleeper!
