TV Makes For Strange Bedfellows

The unlikely trio of singer Dinah Shore, dancer/entertainer Gwen Verdon, and boxing champ Ingemar Johansson, performing on Dinah's show in 1959.

Of course, everyone knows Dinah for her contribitions to television, recording, and the national lesbian pasttime (golf, not whitewater rafting); and La Verdon for her legendary Broadway career. Ingemar isn't revered today, but he was quite the celebrity during the 1950's and early 1960's (until his title-losing defeat to Floyd Patterson in 1962), owing as much to his Swede-next-door good looks as to his athletic prowess. Of course, he filled out a pair of trunks very nicely, which is pretty much all we demand of our sports heroes here at Stirred, Straight Up, with a Twist.

  1. I would have kept him in the boxing trunks all through the program. What kind of straight costume designer did Dinah employ????

  2. The look of schoolgirl lust those two is priceless.
I can half hear Dinah and Gwen giggling to each other in the background

  3. I just became a fan of boxing! Why did someone make Rocky Grazziano's life into a movie and not this yummy guy's? :-)
