Mae's consort is Cal Bartlett, a television actor who had a bit part in Myra Breckinridge. I believe he's the acting student who informs Mae that his height is 6'7", prompting her response, "Never mind about the six feet. Let's talk about the seven inches."
And, yes, that infamous photo of Joan was taken at the Rainbow Room party for Roz Russell in 1974; when the unflattering photos ran in the papers the next morning, Joan decided then and there to retire from public view.
Rather sudden really. I think her last credited gig was "The Sixth Sense" a spin off of Night Gallery in 1972. The photographer should have known better to shoot at that angle anyway, but maybe that was the whole point. Poor thing, she looks like someone just fired a gun.
clever, clever, clever!!!
ReplyDeletewas that chad everett with mae?
wow! I'm dazzled!
ReplyDeleteWho's that on the arm of Mae West?
ReplyDeleteI dare not watch more than one clip at a time for fear of fabulosity overdose.

ReplyDeletei just sat & listened to joan talk about the children. i wonder, was christopher tied into his bed while mommie worked?
ReplyDeleteI would imagine that photo of Joan was taken around the time she decided to retire from public appearances.
