Estelle Winwood
Our last Mystery Guest was Estelle Winwood, as correctly guessed by the ever-astute Toby Worthington. In 1979, following a guest stint on the television show, Quincy, Miss Winwood became, at age 96, the oldest working actress alive. Prominent on the London and New York stage for the first half of her career, this delightfully tart and vinegary character actress became a familiar face on television and in films throughout the 1950's, 1960's, and 1970's. Her final, memorable film appearance was as Elsa Lanchester's dotty, ancient, yet lascivious nursemaid in the Neil Simon mystery spoof, Murder by Death (1976). Miss Winwood died in 1984, having reached the age of 101.

ReplyDeleteMy "astuteness" was actually a shot in the dark,
ReplyDeleteTJB, and I never expected to win the prize.
By the way, what IS the prize?
ELBOW
ReplyDeleteLoved her in Murder by Death...especially her scene in the bedroom with Elsa!
