
Miss Jewell specialized in portraying gun molls (Manhattan Melodrama), hookers (Lost Horizon) and white trash (Gone with the Wind), which, truth be told, sounds a lot more fun than being, say, Loretta Young. By the 1950's however, she had acquired a certain sophistication and elegance.

Miss Jewell's final film before her death in 1964 was Ciao, Manhattan!, in which she portrayed Edie Sedgewick's mother. Which is just about as fabulous a send-off as one can hope for.
