Everyone's a Critic...

"My God, I saw your picture and you are ugly!...After you use your skin lightening creme, could you lend me your copy of 'Uncle Tom's Cabin'? [You are] a bald ugly silly old self hating queen in awe of old movie types...You are a pathetic step n fetch it [sic]...You are living in a fantasy world of yesterday and need to find something useful to do."

But then again, all of the greats were misunderstood.

  4. So many things to say about this post that I don't know where to begin.
First, that comment about you is inexcusable and obviously made by some slack jawed trog !
Second this photograph say's everything about Joan Crawford than words could ever describe !
From the plastic coated sofa to the shadow of Joan's head upon the wall (which is most likely still embedded in the plaster). Peerless !

  9. So was this guy pinned down and forced to read your blog? There is a little button at the top of the page that closes the window. Maybe he should use it next time when he comes across another blog he doesn't like. Your blog is awesome.

  10. thank you for highlighting the plight of the disenfranchised, the illiterate, the retarded. those wretched creatures that somehow find the money to purchase a computer and the brains to turn it on.

  11. Mean comments...the byproduct of blogging, we've all had them.
Thank God for the delete button.

  16. There is a certain breed of nasty minded idiot that just revels in posting spiteful comments on other people's work, lives and thoughts... That same kind of person has no friends - real or otherwise - and will end up flipping burgers in a drive-thru McDonalds.

You, on the other hand, are FABULOUS! Jx

  18. In addition to everything else you do, which I'm sure you do very well, the only "useful thing to do" I can think of would be to chill with a very dry martini and think mellow thoughts about sad, mean people.

  19. There are a lot of nutcakes on the loose and this is a prime example. The rest of us thoroughly enjoy your blog and the time you take with it. Stick with us; we're in your corner.

  20. Well, somebody certainly needs to volunteer in a charity hospital and empty bedpans for a few weeks until the reorganize how they constructively use their time, don't they!

  21. TJB - your blog is a thing of beauty, as are you.

Those nasty comments have absolutely nothing to do with you or the blog - they are a mirror to the soul that left them.

Be happy, be free, and most of all be grateful for a heart that loves.

    Oh, but yes!

  22. Thanks, everyone, for the lovely comments and your continual support of SSUWAT! I posted those "differing opinions" mostly for a laugh -- since I am sure that the person who sent them "trolls" and "lurks" this site. But it's so nice to know that you guys and gals are so staunch in your loyalty! Love you all. xx

  23. I agree: there are a lot of nutjobs on the Internet, and that poster is one of them. I LUV your blog and eagerly read it everyday!! Keep up the fantastic work!!

  24. I'm new in these parts, but already your posts are a daily mood elevator. Not a day goes by that I don't smile wide at the pictures you share. I fear your critic may have have been projecting some their own shortcomings. You're a jewel!

  25. OMFG! At first I thought that was some mean person's quote about Joan, herself!
That's bloody awful (there are some really disturbed "anonymous's" out there-- I've met a few m'self)but You, sir, are endlessly amazing and wonderful! Just ignore those of evil intent and keep on doing what you do, you make it seem so effortless (envy, envy, ENVY...!)
    XXXOOO Rob

  26. don't tell me that revenge is not sweet- just a little, and Joan would not approve- & we can never question her magnificence or taste! pgt

  27. I am so sorry TJB and still can't believe this things really happen. But thanks for showing us the dark side of the blogosphere, it makes the bright side even brighter. And you do shine like noone else out there :)

  28. Absolutely appalling. I wonder who hurt this person so much that they must lash out at, of all things, culture. Yes, culture. I think your site is an homage to it and I love you for taking the time to share the photos that would not be so intriguing without your wit, intelligence and humor. People like that nasty poster are a reminder of the good work you do!

  29. There's some way to track down the computer that was used for that fucked-up comment- they do it on "Law and Order" all the time but I don't know the details. Maybe one of you geeky SSUWAT'ers can figure it out. Then we can all swoop down on that troll and deal with him!

  30. take heart. I went on a one awkward date with the boy down the hall, and still even 9 months later, I still have to be treated to him yelling asshole down the hall at my door at 2 a.m.
I love your blog and read it regularly. as Joan once said to Hedda Hopper,

    '....haters gonna hate.'

  31. Darling, leave it to you to make me laugh after reading that awful and very wrong comment. Now go commission Margaret Keane to paint a portrait of your gorgeous self.

  32. Some people completely lose their ability to function properly on the Internet, and this is obviously one of them. Undoubtedly, they don't act like this in real life, so on some level they know they're wrong. Yet they can't seem to help themselves. No one (except their likely sockpuppet) can possibly them seriously, anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Everything about the remark/insult is a reflection of the many and deep problems that the person who sent it is grappling with and you were merely an outlet for some pent-up hatred. Very sad. It's so much easier for people to just go away from something that doesn't interest them. Why do this? People can be so ignorant and deliberately destructive sometimes. But you know that a) he is wrong and b) no one gives a shit what he thinks! Cheers!

  34. Nutjobs on the internet are, unfortunately, commonplace; having friends and followers like you is exceedingly rare. I'm deeply appreciative to each and every one of you who have reached out, publicly and privately, to support what I try to do here.

And now, on with the glamour!

  35. my new motto is "two tears in a bucket, muthafuckit" and i LOVE your blog!there's no one in my life that likes these old movies and stars so i love to come here and just soak it in.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Oh My....at first I thought someone didn't like Joan very much, which is strange because she's already dead and all that. My alarm rose when I saw all the comments and s l o w l y realized what had happened. Yeah, I'm a little dim that way.
I admire your personal fashion sense, your interest in classic hollywood and your dedication to the preservation of both.
    Long may you wave!!!!
