Our friend Dray's recent musings on hunky, shirtless Samoan boys naturally got us thinking about Bloody Mary from South Pacific. That's just the way our gay brain works sometimes, and we're not apologizing for it.
One interesting tidbit is that the original Bloody Mary, Juanita Hall, was an African American. She not only played an Asian/Pacific Islander in South Pacific, but also a Chinese American in Rodgers & Hammerstein's later hit, Flower Drum Song.
Well, it's interesting to us, anyway.
For you non-musical theatre queens out there, enjoy this photo of the star of the (excellent) current production of South Pacific, Paulo Szot. He's gorgeous. He's talented. He's Brazilian, for cryin' out loud. Lord have mercy.
And his last name is Szot!
