Miss Terence Stamp

Besides being an acclaimed actor, Terence Stamp was also named Britain's Best-Dressed Man. Not, apparently, based on his costumes from The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert.

JULY 22, 1939

Before donning drag and lip-synching to Gloria Gaynor, Stamp appeared in edgy 1960's opuses like The Collector (1965) and Teorema (1968); not to mention the cult favorite Modesty Blaise (1966), co-starring with the fantabulous Monica Vitti.

It also must be duly noted that Terence Stamp was a fox of the highest order.

During the 1970's, Stamp lived on an organic farm in Ibiza, and also with a geisha in Japan. We are not making this up. He was lured out of near-retirement to play General Zod in the first two Superman epics. At the time, Stamp was living in Bombay. We are not making that up, either.

Stamp was prolific during much of the 1980's, appearing in such high profile films as Young Guns (1986) and Wall Street (1987). During the filming of the 1986 Robert Redford-Debra Winger comedy Legal Eagles, Stamp's mother passed away. To aid in his grieving, he consulted a friend of his who was a witch; Stamp then proceeded to write his deceased mother a letter and burned it in Central Park. We are not making this up.

Following the massive success of Priscilla, Stamp has remained active and visible in films ranging from the indie hit The Limey to the Eddie Murphy vehicle Bowfinger (both 1999). He also launched an upscale packaged food line, The Stamp Collection, which caters to people with food intolerances; and in 2002, the still foxy Stamp ended years of bachelorhood by marrying a 29-year-old Singaporean woman he met in Bondi. Mr. Stamp will hopefully pen his memoirs someday, because we really couldn't make half of this stuff up if we tried.

  3. "Stamped"!!! I love it. I'm going to use it, too, the next time I am intimate with a silver fox.

Which, at the rate I'm going, may be when *I* am a silver fox.
