  1. If I remember right, Diana died and Diahann inherited the role of "Claudine" as a result and got an Oscar nod. She was happy/sad because Diana was her close friend.

  2. Another Diana/Diahann/Diana Oscar connection -- Lady Sings the Blues was originally envisioned as a television project, perhaps with Diana Sands. Then Diahann Carroll's name got bandied about. Eventually, producer Jay Weston saw Diana Ross performing at the Waldorf, and the rest is history...
