  1. It's such a shame the way the work of great decorators is so rarely maintained and treasured. Dorothy Draper's work on the Mark Hopkins Hotel here in San Francisco has long since been eroded into fussy, dull good taste.

  2. I can't imagine anyone thinking they could improve on Ms. Draper's sensibility, but there you have it -- the decline of Western civilization in a nutshell.

    I *live* for her "Entertaining is FUN!" book. Even though I never entertain. Unless you count gentlemen callers. And I don't need a chafing dish for *those* visits.
