Remember Chad Allen? He was the squeaky-clean, clean-cut pre-teen idol who was everywhere (and I mean everywhere) in the mid-1980's. I honestly don't remember ever seeing him on any TV show, but I do remember the Chad phenomenon. I guess he was like the 13 year old male version of Jayne Mansfield: you knew who he was, and you knew he was famous, but you'd probably never actually seen him do anything. Anyway, the still-handsome Mr. Allen turns 34 today; I distinctly remember a tabloid "outing" him, alleging he took part in a "gay hot tub orgy." In 2001, Chad officially came out and now speaks at many gay activist rallies and events.
Incidentally, in looking for a vintage photo to post here (for I fondly remember Chad from my adolescence), I was struck that the majority of his poses amounted to pre-teen porn: lots of seductive gazes and open shirts and blatant eroticism. All of which I usually like, but not when the subject is 12 or 13. Blecch. So, here's a bland, inoffensive 8x10 head shot, and we wish Chad a very rad birthday.

ReplyDeleteI do take comfort in the fact that he *is* still 2 years older than I, and handsome though he may be, he looks about 12 years older.
Gay hot tub orgies will do that to you, I guess.
