We admit it. We love this movie -- every calculated, shameless, manipulative, ridiculous moment of it. We also love Deborah Kerr's wardrobe -- the one she has when she's playing a drifting, morally rudderless kept woman, of course, not the one she has when she's playing a destitute, self-sacrificing cripple.
When she made her US debut for MGM in the 1940's (opposite Clark Gable in The Hucksters), publicity trumpeted, apropos of her surname: "It rhymes with 'STAR'!" It certainly did, and still does.
