NOW Who is It?

Natch.

The second Madame X, Gladys George, was poised to become a major star after that film's 1937 release; circumstance and her dependency on alcohol cut that promise short, although George did have flashy supporting roles in prestige pictures like Marie Antoinette and Tha Maltese Falcon. Shortly before her death in 1954, Gladys had a brief comeback, playing -- what else? -- a faded, alcoholic star making a comeback, in the Doris Day musical, Lullaby of Broadway. She was terrific!
