MMMarvelous!

Is it any wonder that we adore Marilyn Maye? Secretly, if we had our druthers, we too would be a jazzy, sassy chanteuse in a sea green column gown, performing on a Hollywood Palace-style runway stage with our name spelled out in lights behind us. (And so would many of you - yes, we mean you.)

We'd also have a serious, wind-resistant bouffant flip...

...and, most crucially, we'd have a debut album entitled Meet ___________, featuring a snappily illustrated cover portrait and a Valley of the Dolls-esque mobile background.

Even better, at age 81, we'd still be going strong and sounding magnificent - and we'd have giddy gay bloggers absolutely wetting themselves with glee that they're seeing our newest show at The Metropolitan Room not once, but twice.

Marvelous Marilyn Maye performing recently at Jim Caruso's Cast Party at Birdland.

If you see us at The Metropolitan on Sunday the 14th or Sunday the 21st, do say hello. (If you buy us a drink, we'll be even more receptive.)

  1. is it just me or does the illustration on "Meet Marvelous Marilyn Maye" look very, very much like the delightful & lovely arianna huffington?

  4. Jason - She's a great broad, in the very best sense of the word.

normademsond - That clip is what not only introduced me to The Lyp, back in '92, but Ms. Maye! I wondered for years who the vocalist was on "...Church on Time." Flash forward 10 years or so, and I discovered Lypsinka's web site, which had streaming audio of a radio program she did featuring her favorite vocalists - including, of course, La Maye. Finally! A name to the voice... and the rest is history. Marilyn made her big NYC comeback in 2006, and I swear, the cult-like reception she gets is probably the closest to Judy we'll see in this lifetime.

MJ - The cosmos might explode from that much fabulosity! But I'm all for it!

normadesmond part 2 - And we love having you!
