Tuttle Tuesday

Do you remember the sheriff's wife in Psycho (1960)? The one who whispered that Norman Bates had discovered his mother and her lover in bed? That was Lurene Tuttle, and a prime example of her ability to steal a scene and create an impression with just a modicum of screen time. She also has the distinction of roughing up Marilyn Monroe in Don't Bother to Knock (1952), and sending Mamie Van Doren up the river in Untamed Youth (1957).

LURENE TUTTLE RESCUES DONNA CORCORAN FROM MARILYN MONROE IN DON'T BOTHER TO KNOCK (1952)

DON BURNETT PLEADS MAMIE VAN DOREN'S CASE TO JUDGE LURENE TUTTLE IN UNTAMED YOUTH (1957)

We're all about giving everyone their moment in the spotlight here at SSUWAT, so Ms. Tuttle, we salute you!

  1. My "favorite" LT moment is when she plays a possessed little old lady in Tony Curtis's horror mess "The Manitou!"

  2. See, there really ARE no small parts.

  3. She played Vinny in "Life with Father" on TV in the 50's, too.

Lurene Tuttle doesn't sound like a screen name that the studio dreamed up! More like a supporting player on "Mayberry RFD".

After Lurene Tuttle and Lee Patrick, Virginia Christine has gotta be your next feature!

  4. Just checking to see if anyone mentioned "Julia"! I loved that show when I was a kid

  5. Did you get the idea for Lurene after watching her on Perry Mason while researching Gail Patrick? She was a hoot on that show in 1960!
