"Thank you, no. I can just about stand looking at Joan Crawford's face at six o'clock in the morning, but not possiblyBette Davis'." - Vivien Leigh, after being asked to replace Crawford in Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte, opposite Davis
Do you know the answer from Bette Davis ? "Propably Miss Vivien Leigh can't accomplish a Southern accent" (the play was taken place in the South) forgetting the 2 Oscars that Vivien Leigh received by playing Southern ladies......
Luckily, DeHavilland took the role and the film is better for it. That movie could have been a B, but on repeated viewings, it's such a wonderful Southern Gothic treat. I suspect Leigh would have been miscast.
Bette would kick her bitchy little ass.HA!

ReplyDeleteBette Davis' Eyes or Vivien Leigh's Lips--which one would you rather have? Both are gorgeous.
