I'm so conflicted about Vera. A perfect lady, to the point of being a bit of stick, and yet, often, as in this photo, somehow implying that her Secret Lady Place was pretty well known around town.
she got better looking as she got older.
Worship her in "Back Street" (1961)
Teehee.Mr. Peenee said "Secret Lady Place."
I swiped it from you, you minx, you.
Vera Miles zoomed to Bitch Goddess status solely on the basis of Back Street and, to a slightly lesser degree, Autumn Leaves.
She also schtupped Gordon Scott, which has to count for something.
I think that her name did her in. Couldn't they have come up with something better than "Vera"? It sounds so harsh. Not quite good enough to be Marilyn, of Elizabeth, Constance or even Babette. But Vera, like Nan, Gladys and Mildred are all women who are hard as rhinestones, even if their hearts are golden and they pour double shots on the house.Yeah, it was the "Vera"...
