  3. Jayne could not hold a candle to Mae- nor a chihuahua or 2.

  4. Yeah, but Jane was a legend in her own mirror.

  5. In the Diane Arbus biography it said that when she visited Mae for a magazine assigment there were monkey turds on her plush white carpet. This makes me think of Mae as being a real life version of Norma Desmond.

  6. Hats off to Jayne with the rapier wit, but Mae is still the best!

  8. Mae West was (and is) an American institution. She is like Mickey Mouse and George Washington. EVERYONE knows who she is, she is a part of Americana. She was a true original who had a career longer than two of Mansfield's lifetimes. Mansfield was great fun. There is a dramatic difference. Oh...and Lawrence, thanks for the info. You are so..um...knowledgeable. Not an ounce of class, tact or respect...but great research.
