Sadly, Veronica Lake's tale -- swift superstardom followed by even swifter commercial decline; alcoholism; mental illness; estrangement from her children; bankruptcy; early death -- is not an unusual one in the Hollywood annals. What was extraordinary, almost otherworldly, was her glorious natural beauty. R.I.P., Veronica. You are not forgotten.
