Almost a dozen years ago, my friend Clay and I started writing (semi-seriously, mostly for a lark) a musical treatment of Mommie Dearest, with such numbers as the rousing, post-1945 Oscars ceremony "There's Not Gonna Be a Beating Tonight!"
