maybe that's why the poor guy expired, he was just too damn glamorous.
Or he smoked too much?
I think Halston was the last man who got away with smoking as a fashion accessory. On him it looked elegant. Of course I'm sure he smelled like an ashtray at Lola's Pinao Bar and Lounge, but it looked good...
I've heard rumors of a Haltson biopic starring Alec Baldwin and Brendan Fraser. I don't know if it ever got into production, though I'd love to see it.
Scooter - That's been in "pre-production" for years; I doubt it'll ever see the light of day now. Frankly, I don't see Alec Baldwin as Halston at all; he lacks basic elegance, and I shudder to imagine him "camping" it up as Roy "Sweeticakes" Halston.
ATCC - In a moment of madness, I took up smoking in my early 20's, mainly because I loved the accessories. I had a Cartier lighter, an alligator cigarette case, the works. I also had bad breath and needed to get my clothes dry cleaned every other day. Then someone nicked my lighter and case in a bar, and I took it as a sign that I should kick the habit.
I saw in the New York Times a feature about the queen who has Halston's bachelor pad (bottom photo.) Amazingly, it still looks pretty much the same, an homage to 80's chic.
Halston looks like an arch villain in his lair..It's a look I love
