Possibly the single greatest "what were they thinking?" moment in the history of American popular culture.The dress, on the other hand - at least by Merm standards - is really rather pretty. It's always a surprise not to see her in purple sequins.
There are certain things that I will just Never understand.
"put on your sunday best"....and marry someone for 17 hours!
You mean they were married long enough to pose for pictures? The divorce action must have been served with the wedding cake.
If only they hadn't been given a Dutch Oven for a wedding gift, which Ernie used on the honeymoon.

I cannot believe these two were married--how did I miss that? Ol' gap tooth is what we call him around my household.
