In Like Flynn

skinnyGLASSESgirl recently brought up the subject of Errol Flynn, that swashbuckling rascal of Captain Blood (1935), The Charge of the Light Brigade (1936), and The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938). Though never one of our favorites, the admittedly sexy Flynn certainly holds his appeal for us, never more so than when he's being a charming rake, a dashing hero, or brandishing his, er, sword.




However, we are unashamed in our preference for Errol's son, Sean Flynn, who followed in his dad's footsteps as an action star (1961's The Son of Captain Blood -- naturally) and then abandoned Hollywood for life as a globetrotting photojournalist.





Father or son? It's all a matter of preference, of course, but keeping it in the family never seemed such a deliciously scandalous dilemma.

SEAN FLYNN ON THE SET OF THE SON OF CAPTAIN BLOOD (1962)

Sean Flynn (May 31, 1941 - 1970/71?) was, by all accounts, charismatic, glamorous and charming -- with Errol Flynn and Lilli Damita as his parents, he obviously had the benefit of terrific genes.





Sean's short life was certainly romantic, adventurous and, ultimately, tragic: after abandoning acting for a globetrotting career as a freelance photojournalist, he went missing while on assignment in Cambodia, allegedly taken prisoner and executed by the Khymer Rouge. Sean Flynn was declared legally dead in 1984; his remains were never found. Looking at the smiling, heart-stoppingly handsome young man in these photos, it seems all the sadder.
