Gene actually looks much more at ease, and suitably regal, in the outdoors series of photos also used as publicity for The Egyptian , where she's leading the leopard on a leash. This studio bound set up is stilted and silly, plus poor Gene was beginning the low Webb of her mental health -- I think she just had one more film (1955's The Left Hand of God , which she barely made it through) before being committed to a sanitarium.
I love that Liz and her little one have matching leopard print swimsuits! Poor Gene looks massively uncomfortable.

Delete"Low EBB of her mental health"! Autocorrect!
DeleteYeah, what's up with Gene? She never was one to be the sexpot but damn if the studios didn't try hard.
ReplyDeleteShe's possibly massively uncomfortable because that leopard is about to rip her throat out.
